ROLE of the POSITION

The Department of Mathematical Sciences are looking to fill one or more Non-Tenure-Track Assistant Professor-in-Residence (FIR) positions, commencing Fall 2026. The successful candidate(s) are expected to teach effectively four classes of math/stat in each fall and spring semester. These four classes typically include courses such as MATH 120, 124, 126, 127, 128, 132, and STAT 152. The FIRs are required to perform all standard teaching duties, including holding regularly scheduled office hours, and providing mid-semester grades and assessment data for the classes taught. The successful candidate(s) are also encouraged to provide service to the students and the Department. During summers (approximately May 15 – August 15), there are no duties; however, there is often an opportunity to teach for additional compensation. Based on the UNLV Bylaws, FIRs will have the opportunity to be promoted to Associate and Full Faculty in Residence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph. D. in the Mathematical Sciences (or a closely related field) from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who have at least two years teaching experience at the college level with a record of successful teaching experience in lower division mathematical courses. Some research experience is also preferred.

We have a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics beginning July 1, 2026. The Department seeks an exceptional and creative teacher with an established and active research program. All fields of mathematics will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with broad expertise and sustained interest in the areas that complement current research directions in the department, are suitable for undergraduate research experiences, and can support the emerging computational and engineering initiatives of the college. Established familiarity with the US undergraduate mathematics education system is essential.
