What does NAM do?
Overview of Programs
The National Association of Mathematicians, Inc. has events at the Joint Mathematics Meetings as well as MAA's MathFest. In all, NAM has twelve signature events which take place at five points throughout the year:
- Winter Event: Joint Mathematics Meetings
- Spring Event: Regional Faculty Conference on Research and Teaching Excellence
- Early Summer Event: Computational Science Institute
- Late Summer Event: MAA MathFest
- Fall Event: NAM Undergraduate MATHFest
Events at the Joint Mathematics Meetings
At the largest gathering of mathematicians in the United States, NAM has six key events:
- Haynes-Granville-Browne Session of Presentations by Recent Doctoral Recipients
- Cox-Talbot Lecture
- NAM Lifetime Achievement Award
- NAM Panel Discussion
- NAM Business Meeting
- Claytor-Woodard Lecture
NAM's Invited Lectures
We have three other lectures throughout the year at our other signature programs:
- Albert Turner Bharucha-Reid Lecture at the Regional Faculty Conference on Research and Teaching Excellence
- MAA-NAM David Harold Blackwell Lecture at MAA MathFest
- J. Ernest Wilkins Lecture at NAM's Undergraduate MATHFest
NAM's Representation at Various Meetings
NAM acts as an advocacy organization for underrepresented minorities in the mathematical sciences. We have representatives which attend meetings and conferences throughout the year:
