TheNational Association of Mathematicians, Inc.,
known as NAM, was founded in 1969. NAM, a nonprofit professional
organization, has always had as its main objectives, the promotion of
excellence in the mathematical sciences and the promotion and
mathematical development of under-represented minority mathematicians
and mathematics students. It also aims to address the issue of the
serious shortage of minorities in the workforce of mathematical

Although the majority of NAM
members consist of members of underrepresented groups of
minorities, a significant number of members represent a cross-section of
the mathematical sciences community.
